The paramount intention for Outhouse this year is to think ‘ultra’ edgy, ‘ultra’ unconventional and disruptive.
LAZULI, a meticulous curation of seventeen contemporaries, was born out of a fervour for sculptural art. The collection is inspired by various resort elements which are combined with traditional craftsmanship methods, creating wearable sculptural art forms - some fluid and some clean.
As the collection was reimagined into a pivotal campaign, the brand wanted to introduce a new perspective to view art by experimenting with forms and mediums that felt new and euphoric. Creative directors of the House, Kaabia and Sasha Grewal, along with hair artist Marce Pedrozo collaborated to create iconic portraits that marry minimalism with surrealism.
“The concept is surreal, futuristic and artistically bold,” expressed the founders, who wanted to honour womanhood by displaying strong women of age and ethnicity in contemporary products and hairstyles.
The sister duo continue, envisioning the Outhouse Woman of the future, “Every OH Muse had something special about her and when the brand’s attributes flawlessly fused with their personalities, we knew the impact the campaign would make.”
At the forefront of the campaign stars Isla Van Damme, adoringly addressed as Lou Lou, who illustrates the narrative of the bold Outhouse Woman. Her breathtaking ability to be adventurous & fearless in all waves of life makes her a connoisseur of our artistic dialogue.
In her iconic Portrait of Power, Lou Lou adorns the XL Lazuli Sculpt Earrings and the Lazuli Sculpt Pendant, both featuring the profound and serene blue hues of the Lapis Lazuli stone, furthering the dialogue of the House’s Shroomhead motif. The portrait brings to life the avant-garde and futuristic vision of the founders and the hair-artist by experimenting with new forms of hair that complements the sculptural jewellery.
"Being brave and going for the change in anything we do in life, for everybody men, women, children. That s a big mantra,” expressed Lou Lou as we conversed about the campaign, the jewellery and her verve for life.
As she was iconised in the campaign of LAZULI by the House, Lou Lou discussed her love for madness and adventure - which she thinks are requisites to go after the things one wants and to accept the change one wants to bring about. About the collection itself, she expresses that Lapis Lazuli, the stone, is about the blues, about the skies and about nature it s about empowering the wearer. That was the message she left us with.
